Yeehaw! Hold onto your hats because the Greasy Snitches went to the wild wild west! Last April 27th, we wrangled up some of the finest Magic: The Gathering players for a rootin’-tootin’ Outlaws of Thunder Junction Casual Draft at the cozy Perk Cup Coffee, nestled on the 2nd floor of Pretty Huge in BGC.

Eight eager cowpokes trotted in, ready for a showdown at 1 PM on a sunny (and yes, it was sunny) Saturday afternoon. Each player received three play boosters to draft and one additional play booster just for saddling up.

The stakes were high, and the prizes were hotter than a desert sun. Our Snake Draft was a wild ride, with four play boosters opened per pod. In true Wild West fashion, the players picked their loot in rank order: from Rank 1 to Rank 8, then back down the line until every last card was claimed. The air was electric with anticipation, and some mighty fine cards were snatched up, including the prized Lavaspur Boots, Simulacrum Synthesizer, and Vaultborn Tyrant, the shiniest gems in the set.

You might ask:

What is Draft?

Drafting is an exciting way to play Magic where you and a bunch of fellow players each get three packs of cards. You all open one pack each, then you pick—or “draft”—one card from that pack. Once you’ve made your pick, you pass the remaining cards to the player on your left. This keeps going around the table until all the cards in the pack are drafted.

Then, you do the same with the second pack, but this time you pass to the right. Finally, with the third pack, you switch back to passing to the left. Once all the packs are opened and all the cards are drafted, you build a 40-card deck from your newly drafted card pool. It’s a thrilling mix of strategy, luck, and fun, perfect for any Magic: The Gathering fan!

The Champion Emerges

When the dust settled, Ivan Espineda emerged as the top gunslinger, winning not only the draft but also bagging three 3-day passes to Pretty Huge gym, each worth a whopping 1800 PHP! And that ain’t all—Ivan also rode off with some delicious coffee from Perk Cup Coffee. Big thanks to Nigel for rustlin’ up those fantastic prizes!

This hoedown was a rip-roaring success, and we can’t wait to see y’all again for our next grand adventure. Get ready to join us for the next set: Bloomburrow, this August. Until then, keep your cards close and your friends closer. See you on the battlefield!
